The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation (NCCF) held its 23rd Annual Meeting on June 15th. The meeting gathered NCCF Board Members, Voting Members, committee volunteers, grantees, donors, staff and the community at large for a review of the past year’s activities. After welcoming and opening comments by NCCF President Kurt Maytum and Executive Director Diane Hannum, Board Secretary Rose Ann Falcone led the acceptance of the Proof of Notice, Certification of Quorum and approval of the 2008 Annual Meeting Minutes.
Elizabeth Booth reported for the Nominating Committee. Board member Jon Cooke was re-elected to the Board of Directors for a five year term. Kristine Morabito was newly elected to the Board, also for a five year term. Booth presented and the membership elected the following as new Voting Members: James Arcoraci, Michael Brunecz, Bob Dilks, Andrew Kehrer, Jo Ann Kaufman, Blair Koss, Kurt Maytum, Pete Ryan and John Wrigley. Re-elected were: Terry W. Clifton, LaVerne Hall, Diane Hannum, Chris Lanski, Marcia Merrins, Doug Newman, James O’Brien, Kevin Ricotta and J. Carter Rowland.
A review of 2008 followed. According to Hannum, during 2008 there were 198 grants awarded, 241 scholarships awarded, $473,491 distributed in grants and scholarships, $981,555 received in contributions and 13 new funds added. The total number of charitable funds at the end of 2008 was 312. David Doino, Director of Development reported that $7.7 million has been distributed by the NCCF in the form of grants and scholarships since 1986.
Maytum acknowledged and thanked the numerous volunteers that serve the NCCF. Elaine Sinden and Wendy Woodbury-Straight were recognized for serving the maximum number of years as Voting Members. Mike Brunecz was acknowledged for his 10 years of service on the Board of Directors. George “Pete” Holt, NCCF Vice-president, likewise acknowledged Kurt Maytum for his 10 years of service. Grants Committee Chair Rose Ann Falcone reported on 2008 grantmaking. A total of $473,491 was distributed through various grants programs and scholarships. Richard Ketcham, Treasurer and Chair of the Investment Committee reported that year end assets totaled $11,997,810. The investment return, after fees, was a negative 23%, exceeding the benchmark.
The meeting concluded with the presentation of the George B. Weaver Jr. Footprints Award to Edwin L. Hamlet of Sheridan. The Footprints Award is given to an individual that creates footprints in the community for others to follow in the areas of philanthropy and community service. The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation was incorporated in 1986 as a tax-exempt charitable organization.
