NCCF - Different and Making a Difference
Wednesday, January 14, 2009

by James H. Mintun Jr., President

The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation (NCCF) is different from the many not-for-profit organizations vying for your attention.   The differences benefit you, me and the community in general.

Although the foundation conducts a small annual membership drive to help pay our operating expenses, our primary focus is to build permanent funds that will remain in the community forever.
Making a Difference
Established in 1986, the NCCF now has $10 million in various funds that allow us to distribute about $900,000 annually in grants and scholarships to the Northern Chautauqua area.  We serve the northern part of Chautauqua County – the lakeshore area from Ripley to Silver Creek southward to Forestville, Stockton, and Mayville.

We provide funding to organizations that work in the areas of social services, the arts, youth, seniors, the environment, economic development and many others.  We are structured to support the most pressing needs in the community today and, as these needs change, so can our funding focus.

In most cases, the contribution you make to the NCCF is never spent, only the income or earnings is.  This means that your contribution will be serving the community today, tomorrow and for generations to come.

Our funds are managed by professional money managers so their value continues to grow.  As they grow, the distributions we can make to the community also grow. This makes contributions to the foundation different than monies other organizations seek through annual fund drives that are used up within the following year. It also makes a difference in benefiting the community.  We exist as a permanent source of funding to improve and serve all aspects of the community and community life; we do not serve one defined group or area of interest (although we applaud those who do.)

Just as we are flexible in our funding, we offer a wide range of opportunities for every member of the community, regardless of income or wealth, to participate in charitable giving.  All residents, former residents, family, service clubs, charitable organizations, and friends can establish permanent funds with one time funding, installment funding, or through their will or life insurance policy.  The foundation offers a variety of ways to set up a fund to provide income for life.

There are many options available to you to become involved in charitable giving.  Contact our Executive Director, Diane Hannum at dhannum@nccfoundation.org or 716-366-4892 for more information or to make a contribution.
